All that i can ever be is nothing more than myself

Your best advice for a hearing person who is majoring in Educational Interpreting?

never ever take a job you are not qualified for.

for educational interpreting this is so important.

you will often be the child’s best language model. AND you will be providing them with all the information they are supposed to be learning in school.

you need to be able to understand the concepts you will be interpreting. as much as interpreting is taking one language and putting it into another, if you cannot understand the original concept how can you possibly explain it in another language, while still making sure that the child is getting ALL the information?

Educational Interpreting is in my opinion one of the most difficult and important aspects of interpreting. a classroom is a challenging place to run in just one language adding another is not an easy task.

That being said. i have never had an interpreter in an educational setting.

im just a Deaf girl. who happens to also be a teacher.

Emma, Mike or Tyler may be able to elaborate more.
