I feel like we should tell them this *already* happens….

this already happens?!?!
what?!
why would you wear hearing aids if you didnt have to?? the hard plastic that i have to shove into my tiny ear canals every morning is the bane of my existence. trying to deal with my hair down AND not being able to just easily tuck it behind my ears because i hate giant BTE is so ANNOYING.
and why would you wear glasses if you didnt have to? i hate my glasses. its this giant thing on my face that gets in the way, and feels like im trapped behind, and they are heavy and hurt the tops of my ears.
and the two in combination is just AWFUL.
why would you wear glasses and or hearing aids if you didnt have to?? how is that a fashion statement?
THE FUCK is wrong with people?!

I know I make a lot of these, but here’s something to ponder on before you reblob the cute baby:

Deaf people don’t wear hearing aids or get implants to benefit themselves. They do it to benefit you.

I can’t speak for all deaf/Deaf people, and I know a lot of HOH folk feel that they owe it to hearing people to use machines to function, and enjoy those machines (there must be someone on this planet somewhere who actually likes  wearing hearing aids… somewhere) but really? We do these things to ourselves so you don’t have to speak up or make an effort. We do it because we’re raised to believe we’re a burden. As the person with a disability, it is our job to make the abled feel normal, because normality is a privilege and the dichotomy must be upheld by the oppressed. Why do you think hearing aids are so discreet? It should never be asked of hearing people to even acknowledge, let alone adjust their behaviour for, deafness.

You may have to speak up and reiterate sometimes. It’s frustrating, I know. So is wearing gobs of plastic in your face that chew batteries and screech randomly and facilitate physical and audiological discomfort more often than not. Meet me halfway here sometimes. That’s why we’re friends.

Just my opinion; may not necessarily reflect the others.

Emptying out my purse I found a Shit ton of old hearing aid batteries. What to do with them? ? Make a magnet sculpture of course!! Haha
*i think im going to continue this! haha

new hearing aids make me giggle. they also throw off my sense of balance.. weird…they are supposed to be the most powerful hearing aids that exist.. i am not impressed…

oh man. audiologist says i out deafed my hearing aids. i wanted them set louder, but he told they dont go any louder, yet i still cant hear for shit. apparently oticon made a new super power HA in the last year that he thinks will help. so possibly be getting new hearing aids..

Deaf girl problems:

trying to get your hearing aids out with freshly painted finger nails. and you end up grabbing a pencil and prying them out that way…

I read the post about hearing aids, and I'm wondering if it's so hard and blurry/distorted, why have one? Is it still better than not? I would think that would be more confusing and irritating

with out my hearing aids, i basically cant hear anything. and would not be able to communicate orally. i like my hearing aids. i do. honsetly as much as i hate them. i love them. and i need them. my family doesnt sign. i dont have interpreters for school. i work as a teacher of hearing children. i need to be able to communicate orally sometimes. i am an expert lip reader, face reader, body language reader, so in tandem with my hearing aids i CAN communicate orally in certain situations. ie people looking directly at me, people not having beards, food in their mouths, accents, strange lip patterns, background noise etc.

also i like my hearing aids becuse it alerts me to some more environmental sounds. while i still cant hear people coming up behind me or other things happening, i do hear somethings, and i appreciate hearing those things becuse i get scared easily when something happens. for me they make me feel more secure and aware.

but thats just me. many deaf and hoh people are happy without hearing aids. and thats just them. its all personal preference really.

:)

sorry if you're asked this a lot, but what do hearing aids do if you are deaf? can you hear a little bit? i'm sorry im not trying to be rude at all im just curious

some deaf people wear hearing aids, some do not.

keep in mind, hearing aids are NOT like glasses, they dont ‘fix’ a hearing loss.

lets start with the basics. deaf does not mean hear nothing, it is a variable line and changes for every deaf person.

sound is composed of two things volume and frequency. a hearing loss can be composed of different amounts of both. this can be measured on an audigram which charts a persons level of volume at which they can hear each frequency.

hearing aids can then be programed to fit each individual’s loss.

for people who have much more profound losses hearing aids can often take frequencies they may be completly missing and change them in to frequencies they CAN hear.

as well, just becuase someone can hear more, doesnt mean they can understand. for some deaf people, there may be alot of distortion. thats how it is for me. i have a severe to profound loss. but with my hearing aids some sound is brought up to a level my ears can detect, but there is little discrimination between things, its very mushy and blurry like being underwater. and i have a VERY difficult time taking sounds apart such as with background noise.

others can use hearing aids with quite good effect. their hearing loss being of a different kind.

for both kinds of people though, hearing aids bring ALL sound up. so while they make things louder they make EVERYTHING louder, so it is much more difficult to understand speech in certain situations.

lastly, there are people who are COMPLETLY deaf. its rare in the ways of deaf people. but i do know some. and HA would be useless on them.

hope that answers your question.

you know you are deaf when, you have to moisturize the inside of your ears.
